Course Brochure

12 – 13 September 2024 ONSITE/ONLINE

About the course

This two-day course, assuming no previous knowledge of the topics, will introduce the fundamental concepts of, and approaches to, Cyber Security and Systems Forensics. It will start with a brief overview of the history and evolution of Cyber Security, then continue introducing the main topics in IT system forensics, network security, malware analysis and operating systems hardening. We will finish off with an introduction to state-of-the-art tools, protocols and methods which are at the heart of Cyber Security Frameworks.

Various tools will be used to solve real-world problems, for instance, Splunk for log analytics and cyber threat intelligence, Metaspoitable and Nmap for network security, and Wireshark for protocol-level IP traffic analysis. As a case study, projects in which the course tutor has been personally involved will be discussed at appropriate points of the day.
